Eryk was just like any other 5 year old boy in kindergarten when his parents separated. He liked school, had friends and played with the family dogs. He had a bit of a hard time adjusting to his dad and mom living in different homes, but he was adjusting.
Sadly, dad and mom became embroiled in a high conflict divorce and custody battle. Poor Eryk was forced to choose which parent he was to love more, and the consequences were damaging. Three times Eryk was admitted to Children's Medical Hospital in Dallas for suicidal ideations: he had just turned 7 the first time he went.
After a lengthy court battle, a jury of his parents' peers decided he could no longer live with his mother because of the harmful things she had done in not taking care of him. Before his father could take him away, his mother shot and killed him and then turned the gun on herself. Eryk was just 10 days shy of his 8th birthday.
It is because of Eryk’s story that Eryk’s Place of Hope has been created. Our goal is to help kids have as healthy of a relationship with both of their parents and extended family as possible. We don’t want what happened to Eryk to continue to happen to other kids caught between their arguing parents. We want to help divorcing families realize that divorce ends the marriage, not destroy the family. This begins with our offering Supervised Visitation Services.
